1. Please introduce yourself, including where you’re from and where you’re based.
Hello, I’m Nerdmaid Faith, also known as faithonthebass online, and I’m from Vancouver Canada!
2. When did you become a mermaid?
I became a mermaid in the summer of 2014 when my mom told me about a girl at our local pool who had a mermaid tail. I decided that it was rad and that I was going to do it. I spent about 2 weeks researching and then ordered my very first tail!
3. What means Mermaiding to you?
Mermaiding to me is a great hobby that I can share with others. I’ve always had very strange and diverse interests, and I have always loved swimming. Being able to put on on a mermaid tail and be completely relaxed underwater is what makes it so special. To me the community surrounding this has been one of the brightest points in my life so far and I am always up to try something new and get better at my craft.
4. What does mermaiding mean to you?
It means to get in touch with an hidden and ethereal part of me: the sensations I have once underwater, the way I see all the mesmerizing wonders of the sea, what I think, the connection I feel with the marine beings, everything changes in and indescribable and extremely deep way… it’s like finding your true self. I have been a competitive swimmer for so many years and a free diver too, but nothing compares to mermading really
5. Which part of mermaiding is your favorite? (freediving, modeling, performing, etc.)
For me, I love the fact that I can combine my other skills with mermaiding. I have always loved to perform as well as be the person behind the camera and computer, so the opportunity to make videos by myself about mermaiding is a wonderful thing. Besides that, I also love the fitness aspect that comes with mermaiding and I take safety very seriously.
6. Do you do mermaiding as a hobby or professionally?
I would mostly call mermaiding a hobby for me. I do not own a silicone tail (one day though!) but I make a little bit of money from my YouTube videos.
7. Are you part of a mermaid pod?
Yup! There are a few mermaids here in Vancouver that I try to meet up with from time to time.
8. Do you have any tips for others who would like to turn into mermaids or mermen?
My tip is to enjoy every stage! I’ve seen many young mermaids get really excited then discouraged about owning a silicone tail – my advice is to work hard for what you want and be the best mermaid you can be at every point in your journey!
Thank you very much Nerdmaid Faith for answering all my mermaid questions. I’m looking forward to following your future mermaid adventures.
